Snowshoers experience the invigoration and solitude of remote waymarked trails that wend their way across high and silent snowfields, where it is not uncommon to see arctic hares, chamois, golden eagles and silver foxes. Many trails venture into the rocky reaches and here snowshoers negotiate amazing rock formations, towered over by Dolomite massifs with their rose pink hues standing out against deep blue skies and brilliant white snow. The effect is quite spellbinding.

Collett’s guests staying in Corvara and Badia can join snowshoeing itineraries five days a week, free of charge and completely optional. These itineraries are totally invigorating. The exhilaration, fun and sense of adventure are immense; there is a certain joy about setting off in good company to spend a day under blue skies, venturing across virgin snow and exploring a real winter wonderland. Our itineraries vary in time, distance and nature, though we always try to give guests the opportunity to explore different parts of the area. Some leave ‘from the door’, others will involve using local transport, and yet more will require a Collett’s vehicle (extra charges apply) to access some of the Dolomites’ hidden gems.

Snowshoes are available locally from our chalets for about €6 per day and they are easily attached to a normal pair of walking boots. Pedraces is perhaps the best location for snowshoers/walkers and occasionally we offer people here the choice of two different excursions on the same day so that we can cater for people of varying fitness levels. Corvara is also an excellent springboard for snowshoers.

Ultimately, you do exactly as you please, we are available to help, but careful not to interfere. If you prefer to organise your snowshoeing itineraries independently, we will leave you to your own devices. Snowshoe hire and lift passes

Snowshoes can be hired at the local sports shop at €10 per day. However, we keep several pairs at Haus Valentin and Chalet Verena, which can be rented for €6 per day. On the occasions when ski lifts are used, these can be paid for individually. Snowshoes may require carrying at some points during the day, you should come equipped with a rucksack, to which they can be strapped or placed inside.

You join our organised itineraries and make use of our ideas & information at your own risk. It is important that you understand that whilst our own walkers, skiers and snowshoers have substantial local knowledge and are familiar with the routes which our organised walks follow, they are not qualified mountain guides.
