Corsica’s walking terrain is remarkably varied and often rugged, reflecting the island’s mix of mountains and coastline. Trails range from gentle coastal paths that wind through maquis shrubland and beaches to steeper inland routes crossing forests, gorges, and rocky ridges. Much of the walking has frequent ascents and descents, but the paths are generally well-marked and rewarding. Walkers can expect a blend of pine and chestnut forests, granite peaks, rivers, and sea views, making the island one of the most diverse walking destinations in the Mediterranean.
Walking in Corsica requires no technical skill but can be rough underfoot, and needs surefootedness. Previous hill walking experience is useful. The route generally follows clear footpaths and forest tracks with some short sections on road. Any exposure is mild and only very short sections – maximum 5m, and usually avoidable by not taking a route extension.
