Five of us spent last week in Chalet Angelo
Five of us spent last week in Chalet Angelo, Corvara doing Via Ferrata. No probs - enthusiastic, friendly/efficient staff - great food (our 2 vegetarians well catered for) plus wines & beers. It was interesting to meet experts doing courses in flowers or painting etc. We hired a car through Avis at Marco Polo airport and found it invaluable in reaching various starting points for VF's - the Cicerone guide is pretty hazy - Collett's laminated routes are better but not infallible - I guess the main risk is where ropes are frayed or bolts are hanging loose in the wall but none of this is a show-stopper provided you have climbing partners around. Seems to me that soloing the bigger routes is possible but you need to watch the weather - avoid being high up after 4.00pm, plus the rock varies - you probably need to be climbing at severe/VS if you want to solo. One warning about Marco Polo hire-cars - the airport's a building site - it took us ages to find the rental desks (3rd floor) then even longer trying to get out of the multi-story. Next time I'll try Treviso...
