Yes. Tuscany is one of Europe’s most popular regions for walking holidays thanks to its rolling countryside, historic hill towns, vineyards, olive groves, and well-marked paths. Walks are typically non-technical, with varied terrain that combines scenic rural landscapes with cultural highlights, making Tuscany ideal for walkers who enjoy both nature and history.

The best place to go hiking in Tuscany is the Val d’Orcia region, which is a UNESCO World Heritage landscape and regularly features in films. It boasts some quintesenntially Tuscan scenery, with well marked trails and charming medieval hilltop villages throughout.

Walking in Tuscany is characterised by gentle hills, cypress-lined tracks, vineyards, olive groves, and medieval villages. It’s a relaxed but rewarding walking experience rather than high-mountain trekking.

A centre-based walking holiday works particularly well in Tuscany. Staying in one location allows walkers to explore a variety of routes without changing accommodation, enjoy relaxed evenings, and fully experience Tuscan hospitality, including fantastic food and wine. Daily walks explore different parts of the surrounding countryside, with the comfort of returning to the same base each night.

The best times to go on a walking holiday in Tuscany are spring (March–April) and autumn (September–October).
Spring brings mild temperatures, green rolling landscapes, wildflowers, and quieter trails, making it ideal for comfortable countryside walking before the summer heat arrives.
Autumn offers cooler conditions after summer, golden vineyard colours, harvest season scenery, and excellent walking weather, especially through vineyards and hill towns.

Yes. Tuscany is renowned for combining walking with rich cultural experiences. Many routes pass through historic villages and wine-growing areas, and evenings are often centred around traditional Tuscan cuisine and local wines, making the experience about more than just walking.

Some of our walks start from (and end at) Il Rigo. However, where transport is required at either end of a walk, this is arranged by us as per the itinerary and is included in the price of your holiday. Il Rigo lies in a rural setting 25 minutes on foot from the pretty town of San Quirico. If other local places of interest appeal to you, alongside some walks, you could consider a hire car.
