Snowshoeing on Pralongiá Plateau

13 January 2016

With the arrival of our first major snowfall just before New Year the area has turned into a beautiful winter paradise, there has been a further 10cm overnight across the Dolomites. Skiers are enjoying the addition of the extra snow but it’s the snowshoers that are really getting out into nature. Even complete amateur photographers such as myself are hard pushed to not take some brilliant shots of the area.

Bright white snow and good weather combined with a fun group can make for the best of days in the Dolomites. Not forgetting the highly anticipated Refugio stop to take in the scenery, refreshments and a full cooked lunch! L’Tabla Refugio (pictured) is a popular spot in the very centre of the Plateau so can get busy at times but we managed to hit it just right and avoid the lunch rush to enjoy some much needed warm food.

Sam, from Chalet Haus Valentin, was able to take a group up to the Pralongiá Plateau after a dusting of snow had fallen in the night last week. The Pralongiá snowshoe is a fantastic spot to get to grips with how to walk and operate in the equipment at your own pace and some of the guests found it to be a very easy introduction to an activity they had never done before! From the photos below that Sam took you can see the group size was perfect for the day. Cold and crisp with great views in to the Alta Badia valley.

Thanks to Jack at Chalet Verena the words!
