Snowshoeing in Badia

22 November 2021

The tranquil snow meadows of the Alta Badia

We wake up, with a keen sense of intrigue and excitement. After arriving late last night we are keen to throw back the curtains and see what the day has in store for us, setting the scene for our adventure ahead.  Time to head downstairs for some breakfast, a bowl of Museli, a chocolate croissant and a hot coffee will be the perfect fuel for the day.

As we all gather our belongings in our hiking rucksack we double check that we have all our warm clothes, water and money for our lift pass.  We collect our snowshoes and walk through the village, admiring the beautiful Chalet properties covered in fresh snow.  We start our day by ascending in a gondola that has heated seats, providing stunning views across the valley, our playground for the week.

Once we attach our snowshoes onto our walking boots and adjusting our walking poles we start our exploration.  The route takes us uphill first so we warm up quickly from the effort! It’s not long before the path is undulating and we can admire the views and take lots of photos to share with our friends and family back home.

The snow in the meadows glistens and sparkles as we break a path through the pristine landscape. We soon reach a ‘Rifugio’, a mountain hut, offering the most tremdous lunches in a spot that is to die for.  Sittting next to warm fire and enjoy a delicious plate of pasta.  The service and setting are wonderful however the draw of the walk is too much to resist.  We quickly re-join our waymarked path and being our gentle descent back to the village. The route is well sign-posted, allowing us to simply enjoy the views.

Upon our return to the village, what better way to end a truly special day than enjoying an apple strudel in the local cafe. It has been a fabulous first day of the holiday and are already looking forward to planning the following days adventure when we return to the Chalet.
