The new Collett’s brochure is hot off the press and full of glorious photography, reflecting the sheer beauty of our destinations and the special walking holidays we offer in them. It is always exciting when we include a new destination, especially when it is such a stunner. The Hohe Tauern National Park in the heartland of Austria is a walking holiday ‘must’ with perfect credentials, icluding the Grossglockner – at 3798m, Austria’s highest peak – and the Grossvenediger, the country’s fourth highest.

Introducing the Hohe Tauern National Park, an Austrian classic!
A UNESCO World Heritage Site, this is the roof-top of Austria. It is also the largest National Park in Central Europe. We are based right in the heart of the Hohe Tauern in the pretty village of Matrei, the ideal launchpad for the stunning walks we have carefully researched in the four majestic valleys that emanate from here.
We have painstakingly put together an impressive collection of walks to suit all fitness levels from idyllic gentle strolls to high hardcore hikes. As always, you choose day to day whether to do these walks in an organised group with other guests – or to go out on a self-guided basis. The choice is yours. Whatever you do, expect fascinating flora and fauna, pristine lakes and tarns, dramatic waterfalls and rivers – and mountain landscapes to die for.
At Collett’s, the evenings are as important as the days and you are sure to enjoy the welcome, hospitality, cuisine, hospitality and the many comforts of our base in Matrei, the Hotel Hinteregger – unless, of course, you opt for one of our self-catering options.
