What to expect on our Guided Walking Holidays

GR11 1.1

You first meet your holiday hiking companions at the designated arrival airport or train station. From there, you’ll then be taken directly to your hotel, where you can settle in before your guide gives you a short welcome briefing.

We offer two types of guided walking holidays: centre-based and village-to-village. On our centre-based holidays, your hotel soon becomes your relaxing home-from-home, making it easy to unwind at the end of each day’s walking. On our village-to-village guided walking holidays, you stay at a different hotel each night of the holiday. Whilst accompanied by our guide on each day’s walking, your luggage is collected and moved on to your next overnight stopover, so that it is waiting for you on your arrival each afternoon.

As you would expect, our guides are qualified first aiders, so if you are unlucky enough to have a mishap on the mountains, rest assured he/she will be on hand to take good care of you.

Frequently Asked Questions

A guided walking holiday is a walking holiday where an experienced guide leads the group each day. The guide takes responsibility for route navigation, safety and logistics, allowing you to focus on the walking and enjoying the scenery.

On a guided walking holiday, you walk as part of a small group following a set itinerary. The guide chooses the routes, sets the pace and shares local knowledge, making the experience relaxed and informative.

Yes. Guided walking holidays are often ideal for people new to walking holidays because the guide manages navigation, safety and pacing, making it easier to enjoy the walking without worrying about getting lost or choosing routes.
However, guided walking holidays are also great for those wanting to learn more information about the areas walked, as guides share a lot about the local flora and fauna, for example.

Guided walking holidays offer:
– stress-free navigation
– lots of local knowledge and insight into the landscape, culture, flora and fauna
– a sociable group experience
– reassurance and support in unfamiliar terrain
They are particularly popular with solo travellers and those new to walking holidays, but we also offer more challenging guided walking holidays such as the GR11 and the Pyrenees Peaks & Passes for more experienced hikers looking for more difficult day walks.

Our guided walking holidays range from moderate to challenging. Each holiday is graded, so you can choose one that matches your fitness level. The guide will usually manage the pace to suit the group.
Our moderate guided walking holidays can be found here, and our challenging ones, here.

Guided groups walk together at a pace that suits most of the group. There is less flexibility than on a self-guided holiday, but the guide will usually allow for rest stops and ensure that slower walkers are accommodated.

Most guided walking holidays include:
– Overnight accommodation
– A professional mountain guide
– Planned routes
– Meals and transport to/from trailheads
The exact inclusions depend on the holiday and destination, so be sure to check the ‘At a Glance’ sections of each of our guided walking holiday.
