In the Alta Badia, we believe we are at the heart of the world’s most dramatic and beautiful mountains. The Dolomites are the crown jewels of the Alps. With their unique shapes and colours, these colossal natural monuments are the backdrop to some of most beautiful mountain landscapes in the world. These landscapes are even more magical when the snow falls.
Skiers sit mesmerised on chairlifts. Winter walkers and cross-country skiers gaze up in awe from woodland trails, whilst snowshoers might venture into the massifs for a real close-up. Others stare from the sun terraces of mountain huts or village cafes with hands cupped around a gluhwein or a hot chocolate.
You are sure to share our appreciation of this breathtaking corner of alpine Europe. The unspoilt Tyrolean villages bewitch you on a human scale with their wooden chalets, farm buildings and churches, while the Dolomites tower above you – castles of rock, soaring to the sky as if frozen in mid-explosion.
The Dolomites lie close to Italy’s borders with Austria and Switzerland. Geologists believe they were heaved up 50 million years ago when Europe and Africa collided. Since then the actions of ice and water have carved them into the overwhelming sculptural forms we see today. More recently, history has shaped the area.
After WWI, the area – South Tyrol – passed from Austria to Italy. Mussolini failed to Italianise it and it now thrives on the harmonious co-existence of the Austrian and Italian cultures in a region where Latin meets Germanic. Add to these cultures, the influence of a modern and dynamic mountain-dwelling community with an enlightened, yet conservative approach to tourism and the result is a uniquely charming destination for winter holidaymakers.
Add to these cultures, the influence of a modern and dynamic mountain-dwelling community with an enlightened, yet conservative approach to tourism and the result is a uniquely charming destination for winter holidaymakers with unrivalled infrastructure.
At the heart of the central Dolomites, two stunning valleys meander below spectacular mountains to the foot of Monte Sella, a vast and glorious natural plinth and one of the 7 great Dolomite peaks that exceed 3000m. Situated between Val Gardena and Cortina, the Val Badia (Corvara & Badia) and the Val Livinallongo (Arabba) combine to make a winter paradise for skiers of all levels and snowshoers.
These villages boast doorstep access to the vast Dolomiti Superski network, as well as the remote snowfields and woodland, which are so attractive for snowshoers and winter walkers. The Alta Badia is one of the most beautiful valleys in the Alps, acquiring UNESCO World Heritage status in 2009.
Each village has a startling backdrop of towering peaks. These rock formations are arguably the most spectacular in the world and their drama is exquisitely countered by the charm of the picturesque Tyrolean valleys and villages that they loom over.
The villages themselves are a charming mixture of modern mountain resort and tranquil step back in time. Attractive modern chalets and hotels are interspersed with rustic alpine dwellings and timbered farm buildings, many huddled around the spires of picturesque churches.
They have equipped themselves well for the holidaymaker without compromising their unquestionable character. There are banks with cashpoints, supermarkets, shops (including some excellent winter sports shops), delightful restaurants, cafes, bars and pizzerias. Life is unhurried and easy-going.

1200kms of piste
Group & self-guided skiing
All abilities
Nowhere in the world do the ingredients of the perfect day’s skiing co-exist so harmoniously as here in the Dolomites. Beautifully maintained tree-lined pistes wend their way down to enchanting Tyrolean villages amidst breathtaking scenery. For years the Dolomites has been a renowned centre for winter sports. Inevitably, downhill skiing takes centre stage and thanks to the vision and ‘state of the art’ infrastructure of Dolomiti Superski, this is an area of unique and wonderful opportunity for the skier.
An ultra-modern lift system and very little queueing awaits you. Amazing distances are covered in the same day without ever repeating the same piste. A single liftpass provides you with access to over 1200km of perfect pistes across 12 neighbouring valleys, each comprehensive ski resorts in their own right, each characterised by the most dramatic scenery. Many of the descents are simply unforgettable.
Scattered across the Dolomiti Superski network are cosy and welcoming mountain huts called rifugios. Some are just next to the piste, others hidden away in the woods off narrow tracks. The rifugios are a delightful feature of the skiing here. They all have sun terraces with absorbing panoramas. Or you can go inside and wallow in the warm and sociable atmosphere that characterises their hospitality and rustic nature. That said, in recent years, some of them have been refurbished very stylishly, whilst retaining an exquisite alpine character.
Food and drink is reasonably priced and you don’t have to wait long for a really good lunch. One is often reluctant to return to the skis and move on. Whether you choose Collett’s or not, every skier should ski Dolomiti Superski at least once in a lifetime.
On a Classic Collett’s skiing holiday in the Dolomites, you can ski in a group in the good company of others or self guide. Whenever possible – but most days of the week we will offer one or both of the following.
A Leisurely & Relaxed Ski Tour – A leisurely scenic ski tour mainly on blue and green runs with a few coffee (?) stops now and again.
A Ski Adventure – A faster, longer exploration of Dolomiti Superski on red and black runs wherever possible.
Simply drop in on Office Hour each early evening and choose the itinerary that takes your fancy – see ‘Planning your days’ below.
The extensive knowledge of Collett’s is at your disposal throughout your stay, notably each early evening at Office Hour, where you can browse our Ideas & Info Files and chat with staff and fellow guests who will be happy to share itinerary ideas, good lunch stops and valuable tips about the tours that take your fancy.
Our invaluable ‘Ideas & Info’ files feature numerous magical itineraries to suit skiers of all abilities. You can also borrow on a daily basis an easy-to-carry Route Laminate for each itinerary.
On a Classic Collett’s Skiing Holiday in Italy’s Dolomites, Office Hour takes place each early evening (except Wednesdays) at your accommodation or within easy walking distance of it. Over maps and a relaxing pre-dinner drink, you can chat with members of our team to glean advice and ideas for self-guiding.
There really is something for everybody, however experienced or inexperienced you are – and Office Hour will ensure you get just what you want from your time here.
Office Hour is not as formal as its name suggests. It is optional and informal. Many guests just drop in for a sociable drink with other guests. Either way, another memorable day in the mountains takes shape, leaving you to enjoy the evening with everything sorted for the next day.
Two of our three winter resorts – Corvara and Arabba – are key strategic points on the Sella Ronda, whilst Badia lies in the Alta Badia, an off-shoot from Corvara. The villages line up north to south with Corvara and Badia located in the South Tyrol, the part of Italy that was in Austria prior to 1918. Arabba is more Italian in character and is situated in the Veneto. Skiing between these villages is easy and all three are good launchpads for the vast linked network that is Dolomiti Superski.
Corvara. Each morning you can set off from Corvara to explore the Sella Ronda and its many exciting tributaries on itineraries that take you many miles from the village. Nevertheless, the on-the-doorstep skiing options are also magnificent and locally people can explore the blues and reds of the extensive Pralongia plateau, visiting picturesque local resorts, such as La Villa, Colfosco, Arabba, Badia, San Cassiano and Armentarola. Local skiing attractions also include the Colfosco Bowl, the Gran Risa (Slalom World Cup run at La Villa) and one of the longest runs in the valley at Badia – as well as all the amazing runs that branch off the Sella Ronda as it approaches Corvara clockwise and anti-clockwise. A little further afield – yet easily accessed from Corvara – there is the Marmolada with its 12km descent, the outstanding north facing runs of Arabba and the renowned Val Gardena.
Badia. This authentic alpine village is dominated by the colossal walls of the Fanes Massif. From just below these walls, one of the Val Badia’s longest and quietest ski runs wends its way gently down to the village. Here, intermediate and advanced skiers link into the vast Dolomiti Superski area and within minutes find themselves at the foot of the daunting World Cup run in La Villa, the Gran Risa – by no means compulsory, but a spectacle all the same. From here you can press on to the villages of Corvara or Arabba, and beyond on the world-renowned Sella Ronda circuit and the Val Gardena covering miles of well-manicured pistes, each one set against its own magnificent backdrop. Or, if building your confidence, you can head for the nearby Pralongia plateau, an extensive network of more gentle pistes. A hidden feature of staying in Badia is easy access (a short lift and 20-minute ski bus) to the magnificent Plan de Corones/Kronplatz ski area, all under the same Dolomiti Superski pass.
Arabba. When people ski from Badia or Corvara to Arabba, they follow a vast network of pistes that span the Alta Badia culminating at the Campolongo Pass. This is one of the Sella Ronda’s famous 4 Passes. It is also where you ski from the South Tyrol into the Veneto, giving Arabba a slightly more Italian character. From the pass, you make a dramatic descent into Arabba under the sheer walls of the south eastern flanks of the Sella Massif. Halfway down, the village comes into view, first the spire of the church and then the village itself huddled around it. However often you make this descent, this view is a an exhilarating ways of appreciating this cosy alpine village, nestled under the Sella’s awesome walls and a chain of other impressive peaks. From these massifs a series of thrilling pistes, each one obvious to the eye by its brilliant white manicured snow, wend their way down from 2500m, high above the tree-line (and then through it), eventually spilling their skiers into the various lift stations that await them.
In downhill skiing terms, Arabba is a centre of excellence. It satisfies the advanced, intermediate and novice skier. It is one of the highest of the villages on the Sella Ronda ski circuit and has its own exciting network of challenging north facing slopes, which more or less guarantee superb snow conditions well into April, as does its proximity to the area’s highest peak, the Marmolada (3,343m), Queen of the Dolomites, which rises impressively just to the south of the village.
The Marmolada – Whether you stay in Arabba, Badia or Corvara, all skiers of a certain level should consider the Marmolada. You can ski from its summit at 3343m after a three stage cable car ride before descending on a breathtaking 12km piste right to the valley bottom at Malga Ciapela. It is one of many sublime itineraries that you can access on a skiing holiday in the Dolomites by using the Sella Ronda as a sort of orbital freeway and then veering off into whichever area takes your fancy, each one an extensive and attractive ski region in its own right, such as the Val di Fassa (Canazei, Campitello), the Val Gardena (Selva, Santa Cristina) or the Val Badia (Badia, Corvara, La Villa, Colfosco, San Cassiano) – and you still haven’t touched the sides!
We work closely with local ski schools, so if you know your tuition requirements (ski school or private), whilst it can all be arranged in resort, please contact us with details prior to your holiday as it maximises our chances of booking our favoured instructors for you.
The traditional ski school package is 4 mornings (roughly 10am to 12.30pm) plus 1 full day (10am to 4pm) and starts from €230 per person, but does vary from village to village. In some villages it is also possible to choose a 3 day or 4 day course. We can also book you private instruction which can vary between €40 – €70 per hour depending on the time of day, and the season. Additional people are normally charged €10-€15 per person. Please contact us to discuss options available to you, as these do vary between the different resorts.
The Dolomiti Superski pass will cost you €324 for six days (or €64 per day) in high season and €292 (or €58 per day) in low season. These prices are reduced by 30% for juniors born after 28/11/04. Senior citizens born before 28/11/55 also qualify for reductions. Skipasses for children born after 28/11/12 are free!
Prices and dates are taken directly from the Dolomiti Superski website prior to the commencement of the 2020/21 season.
It is also possible to buy local valley passes, for example, for the Alta Badia or for Arabba and the Marmolada, however, for the proficient skier, these passes will not allow you to make the most of the area and are only really suitable for beginners, who may not need to make use of the full Dolomiti Superski pass. There are also other skipass options available for occasional skiers or beginners.
Ski hire starts from around €90 per week, depending on the type of skis you hire, whilst boots will cost you about €40 for six days. All in, expect to pay about €150 for a good set of intermediate/advanced skis, with boots. For snowboard and boots you can expect to pay about €135 for 6 days. Helmets are compulsory in Italy for all children under the age of 14, but we would also highly recommend everyone to hire a helmet during their stay.
On arrival we will help you hire equipment quickly and smoothly with our local supplier in the relevant village

Whether you want half-board luxury or the independence of self-catering, we have the perfect accommodation for your skiing holiday. Take a look at the following:
Bracun is a gem! Towered over by the glorious Sassongher (2719m), it has a fabulous location 10 mins. on foot from the pistes and the village centre. The skibus also stops right outside every 10 or 15 minutes for the 2 minute ride to the pistes. Bracun offers modern alpine comfort and relaxing hospitality. From its attractive bar and lounge, French windows lead to an extensive sun terrace with stunning views. Book B&B and wander to an excellent restaurant or pizzeria each evening – or book half-board and indulge in a 4 course gastronomic feast at the Hotel Cristian next door, where Collett’s has its own dining area.
Perched above the pretty village of Badia, Haus Valentin is a 5 minute walk to the village and 10 minutes to the chairlift. This is a real Collett’s favourite and many a pleasant evening unfolds in its hospitable bar and lounge. Views over the village to the awe-inspiring Fanes massif will absorb you for hours. Guests enjoy a fabulous 3 course dinner – with complimentary wine – prepared by the owners of the property.
Balanced on a natural balcony above Corvara, this is a self-indulgent treat of gourmet food, complete relaxation, sensational views and exceptional hospitality – and the perfect springboard for skiing. It is only a few metres to the piste for a quick descent into Corvara, or the Arlara chairlift for a scenic ride to the blues and greens of the Pralongia plateau. The luxuries and the hospitality touches might be numerous, but it all comes with an unassuming and unpretentious approach and it is easy to relax and unwind in the hotel’s warm and friendly atmosphere. For a real treat, check out their panoramic suites.
Located in peaceful woodland just 2 minutes walk from Badia’s authentic village centre, the Hotel Melodia is an impressive mix of modern comforts and traditional alpine style. We go back almost 20 years with our good friends, Klaus and Monica, who refurbished the hotel beautifully a few years ago. With gorgeous views over the village to the monumental walls of the Fanes massif, it is a 5 or 10 minute walk to the village chairlift, unless you prefer to use the local shuttle bus that passes by regularly and is also available on request.
If a self-catering catering holiday takes your fancy, we have several delightful apartments in Corvara and Badia. Each of them is close to a Collett’s-hosted base, so that it is easy to wander along to Office Hour and plan your days. Nearby shops will keep you well stocked up and both villages have restaurants and pizzerias, which are excellent and fairly priced.
Located at the heart of Corvara, yet attractively secluded, this ‘ski in ski out’ treasure is the epitome of excellence and delectable charm. With one Michelin Star, it is a gourmet’s paradise. Often listed in the World’s Top 100, it remains unassuming despite its exquisite hospitality touches and abundant luxuries. You join us on our organised activities at your own risk, responsible for your own safety, as part of an autonomous group, in which each member has a duty of care to each other.
You will be asked to sign a disclaimer in this respect. This is an explanation of the status of our organised itineraries whether they involve walking, snowshoeing or skiing. We refer to such itineraries as organised, not guided. They are available on a basis of goodwill so that you might enjoy an itinerary you might not otherwise discover. They are nothing more than an opportunity to go out in beautiful scenery in company. It is a fact that mountains, mountainous areas and activities undertaken in them are associated with personal injury and death. By coming to such areas, you are exposing yourself and your party to the possibility of personal injury or even death. In such an event, Collett’s will not be held responsible for your interest in mountainous areas and your involvement in mountain pursuits, which can occasionally have tragic consequences.
In these days of litigation it is important you know that every time you (and each member of your party) join us on an organised itinerary you do so at your own risk as part of an autonomous group, in which each member of that group has a duty of care to the other. This is no different from the responsibilities you have on a casually arranged weekend walk with friends or family in the UK. Our hosts all have experience of the mountains, some more than others. Some have qualifications relevant to mountain activities, but they are not qualified mountain guides. We recruit and train our outdoor staff in line with a Health & Safety Policy, which is based on risk assessment and recognised mountain safety procedures.
Not being professionally responsible for you on organised itineraries does not mean we ignore safety, nor does it make us exempt from owing a duty of care to each person who joins us on an organised itinerary. Your safety is paramount and we therefore take our own measures to maximise safety. We do this in line with legal requirements pertaining to duty of care. We apply Codes of Practice to the procedures carried out by our outdoor staff. We assess, manage and communicate risk. We try to make people aware of the importance of mountain safety and to highlight their responsibilities when part of a group.
Our Codes of Practice should not really be taken into consideration by you when deciding to join an organised itinerary, for at the heart of our procedures are basic mountain safety measures, which should be undertaken by every individual when preparing for a day in the mountains. Finally, during your stay you act at your own risk on any ideas, information and opinions you might acquire from our hosts or from material prepared by us to help you get the most from the area. Thank you for your understanding on all of the above.

Ski guiding was fantastic, staff were always available, knowledgeable and eager to help. The whole setup was conducive to a great atmosphere in the chalet and led to easy social interactions with other guests.
Clare, Bolton Ben and Ben were all excellent and we skied with each of them twice, they were a pleasure to be with and our holiday was made by them. We were lucky as the resort was very quiet and we had some of the slopes to ourselves! Everything was organised to suit us so we consider ourselves very lucky. Rob did our transfer which (Read more...)
Nothing could’ve been better - Your staff were amazing this year. All of them.
Very welcoming considering how late we arrived! Friendly and efficient staff and excellent cook. They made skiing without my family most enjoyable.
I made a late enquiry. Your staff (esp Peter Critchlow) most helpfully found me a room in Chalet Gumina near to Haus Valentin, with access to the skiing programme and meals in HV.
Have travelled with Collett's several times before and know that I am likely to meet compatible people with whom I can ski - as I come out on my own. Also (Read more...)
This was our first time skiing in the Dolomites - the skiing is extensive and the slopes are very well maintained. The local Collett's team were excellent. Their professionalism and enthusiasm greatly enhanced our holiday experience.
A huge thank you to your staff, Millie, Alex, Ollie, Jim, James and Justin at Haus Valentin. Despite it being a difficult week for them personally with illness and injuries they ensured all guests were well looked after and their holiday expectations met.
Thanks also to Caroline your area manager who managed a large ski group to Cin(Read more...)
We were particularly impressed by the outstanding knowledge of the area, and professionalism, of Caroline (Manager, based in Arabba) who came over and led one of the ski days with us. She pointed out interesting local features throughout the day, explained the mountain topography, and answered our numerous questions happily. Complete (Read more...)
All the staff were really helpful and kind. They made my stay and first experience in snow shoeing great. I can't ask for more.
Fantastic ski guiding is a very big draw for me
The holiday is great value
The staff are amazing
Collett's staff in House Valentin couldn't do enough to help us. My daughter and I had a fantastic holiday. Cleanliness was of a very high standard and the food was great. Thank you to all of them.
A superb three-generation family holiday. This was a particularly special holiday for us of taking grown-up kids and a three-year-old grandson son on his first trip to the mountains. Based on several holidays with Collett's, we put ourselves in your capable hands and nothing disappointed from the booking right through to a very happy (Read more...)
The group of friends I normally ski with have sadly fallen by the wayside and in the absence of like minded souls I have been forced to 'go it alone'. Having walked in Corvara ( with Collett's ) a couple of years ago I promised myself I would return to ski in the Dolomites - that ambition was achieved this year and whilst I was appreh(Read more...)
Another fab week with a great bunch of folk and such great levels of service. We could not recommend this company more highly. My only worry is that all our mates will now book and we won’t get a look in!! One little request. Any chance of a base in San Cassiano. Our favourite village in the Dolomites. Thanks
Everything was really, really good. We have booked the same again - what more is there to say. My main requirements are a catered ski-in/ski-out chalet and ski-guiding, so Collett's at Chalet Angelo is perfect for me. It would be lovely if you could arrange it in more villages. If I were pressed to make a criticism the cakes were not (Read more...)
I am very glad and thankful to my friend Mr. Amir Azimi who introduced Collett's Mountain Holidays to me. The company staff were very helpful and nice and The Serena hotel which I stayed was so good and kind staff.
Overall I would say a huge thank you to all the team at Collett's. I had no preconception of how you would be except that previous group holidays with other companies haven't been great - but you outshone those very easily. well done and I hope you continue to be successful
Cat’s catering was superb-the meals were delicious.
All of the chalet staff went out of their way to help our group at all times-they were all without exception an enthusiastic, lively, interested and engaging group(very well recruited!)
Having the staff as tour guides made our week much easier than usual and as a result we skied much (Read more...)
Appreciated all the company at evening meal particularly Caroline who came over from Corvara one evening and was especially attentive.
Relaxed approach welcomed - Regular customer. Enjoy Collett's set up
This was our third trip and we like your offering. The thing you get absolutely right is the staff who are all great and very personable.
Just a great set up and always relaxed but professional. I great time to chat and get to know the staff and other guests.
It is a nice touch that the hosts sit down and eat with the guests, don’t change that.
I don’t know how you carry out you recruitment but I have been going for the last two years and the staff are have all been e(Read more...)
We have previously experienced both summer and winter holidays with Collett’s and have always had a great time.
Thanks to everyone at Collett's Mountain Holidays for another great holiday. We will be back!
Fantastic snowshoeing - I was prompted by an advertisement on instagram. I had been looking at mountain walking/skiing holidays.
Outstanding
Chalet staff were brilliant. Fantastic porridge in the morning in the hot croc. Nothing was too much trouble. Excellent accompanied activities and understanding of people’s needs
Couldn’t fault it.
Possibly a little more adventurous in terms of local specialties, but the food was very good and my gluten free daughter wa(Read more...)
Previous experience was very good. We had a mixed group - some wanting to walk and some to ski so it was important that the walkers were catered for. But one of the biggest factors is that - unlike so many companies - you provide single rooms at no extra cost. When is the rest of the industry going to wake up to the fact that not ever(Read more...)
Super food. My particular requirements were well catered for.
The Hotel Melodia spa was so enjoyable that I usually missed most of office hour....
