Majestic mountain landscapes on a flexible walking holiday in Switzerland's Engadin Valley.

Near to St. Moritz and towered over gloriously by the highest mountains in the Eastern Alps, the enchanting village of Sils lies between two majestic lakes of sparkling, teal-blue water. With a northern Italian climate, this is where the Swiss come to hike, venturing out on waymarked trails, from the idyllic and gentle, to the high and challenging.

The Hotel Maria in Sils is our delightful base, the perfect gateway to easy rambles, moderate hikes, and challenging treks. With your Collett’s Walk Pack, you can plan a succession of wonderful walks all within your comfort zone. The icing on the cake is the daily support and knowledge of our Walks Team, not to mention your complimentary Mountain Pass, providing free use of all local cable cars, buses, and mountain trains, including the renowned Bernina Express between St Moritz and the Bernina Pass.

Take a look what our first-time guest Rosemarie Wood, and repeat guests Judith & Paul Ransom thought of this holiday in their Swiss Alps walking holiday reviews.

Availability in August can be limited as this is the main holiday period for European countries, when both the trails and towns will be busier. Take a look at our What are the best months to hike in Switzerland blog post for further infomation on this important topic.

Sils Maria in the Upper Engadin, just 10 minutes from St Moritz, is the perfect base to go walking in Switzerland. It feels like a million miles away from the hustle and bustle of the Bernese Oberland, and is very much the reserve of walkers and hikers rather than ‘tourists’. Sils is a superb springboard from which walkers can explore spectacular alpine scenery and where the surrounding snowcapped peaks are often 3000m+. Take a look at our Swiss Alps Destination Guide to find out why.

There really is no need to hire a car on this holiday. This is Switzerland – buses and trains run like clock-work and all our featured walks can be easily accessed using the free public transport. our centre-based walking holiday in the Swiss alps includes a Mountain Pass, which you can read more about here.

All our guests are issued with a Mountain Pass, which means all the local trains, buses, cable cars and chairlifts are free. All our featured walks can be easily accessed by bus or train. This represents a huge saving over having to ‘pay as you go’ on lifts etc. which over the course of a week or so, can mount up and become expensive.
