With no fixed itinerary, you choose day-to-day whether to focus on one grade – or mix it up, pushing yourself one day and taking it easy the next. A centre-based walking holiday is where you stay in one hotel throughout your trip – and use that hotel and village as your ‘base’ for the week. You can unpack, relax and settle in – safe in teh koweldge that you don;t need to check out until your heading back to the airport. Each day you are then free to choose from a fantastic range of walks in the surrounding area, returning each afternoon to your ‘home from home’.
These holidays allow you to explore all the best trails in the area, plus some a bit further afield. It also means that you don’t have to walk every day – it’s easy to have a rest day, or enjoy more of what’s on offer in the local area – whether that is simply enjoying a long lunch on a sunny rifugio terrace, losing yourself in a good book, or treating yourself to time in a Spa – the choice is yours!
You stay in one of our handpicked hotels, we provide you with a comprehensive Walk Pack which is full of all the best walks in the area, then you are free to explore the trails at your own pace. Our Walks Team is then on hand every day to help with any questions, and to ensure you get the best out of your time on holiday.
No. The beauty of our centre-based walking holidays is that they are completely flexible. You can walk every day if you want to, but equally you can take a rest day when you want one, choose a shorter stroll if you over did it the day before, or spend time exploring the local area. There is no pressure to follow a fixed programme, but our Walks Team are always available to help you get the best out of your time in the mountains.
Our centre-based walking holidays are self-guided, which means you can do what you want, when you want to. With the support of our expert local Walks Team, and our extensive Walk Packs – which include comprehensive walk notes, maps and use of our navigation app – you have complete flexibility each day over which of the tried and tested walks you do.
Each resort has an experienced local Walks Team who know the area inside out. They can:
- Suggest the best walks based on your experience, abiility and of course prevailing and weather conditions
- Suggest easier or more challenging options, depending on how you get on
- Offer advice on non-walking activities if you want a day or two away from the trails
