Transfers & Arrival Day

If you have booked an Airport Transfer, you will be met by a member of our staff at the airport at a pre‐arranged time. Details of transfer times are posted by Dee Collett in the form of a letter to the person who booked the holiday.

At Venice Marco Polo & Treviso Airports, we meet by the café in the Arrivals Hall – Transfer Time: 3½hrs.
At Innsbruck Airport we meet by the bar in the Arrivals Hall – Transfer Time: 2hrs.

Important Notes concerning Collett’s Transfers We try to keep ‘waiting at the airport’ to a minimum, but you have booked a transfer on the understanding that it is a possibility on both your day of arrival and departure. We are not offering a personal taxi service. Our transfer times are set to help us group people together from a number of different flights, both morning and afternoon. Waiting may also be caused by delayed flights – within reason. Please cancel your airport transfer and make your own plans if you are not happy with these arrangements, which by and large work very well.

Whilst on the transfer our representative will ascertain your Skipass requirements and they will be delivered to you at breakfast the following morning.

On arrival in the Dolomites you will be welcomed and settled in. We will then organise any relevant equipment hire etc. If, however, you arrive after a certain time, we place the emphasis on getting you settled in, relaxed (with a drink) and well fed, leaving it until the following morning to organise any ski equipment etc. Either way, we will get you on the slopes as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Chalet Angelo Transferees – Guests staying in Chalet Angelo will be dropped off at Chalet Roch and shuttled up the hill to Chalet Angelo. Unfortunately the road leading up to the chalet is too steep and narrow for a coach. Similarly, at the end of your holiday you will be shuttled down to Chalet Roch for your return airport transfer. This can mean you will depart from Chalet Angelo slightly earlier than the transfer time indicated in your pre-holiday correspondence.

Delayed Flights
Collett’s can take no responsibility for repercussions concerning delayed flights. If your flight is delayed, your allocated transfer will wait for up to 60 minutes – but no longer. We cannot wait any longer because our drivers are on time limits. So, if the delay exceeds 60 minutes, we either (1) allocate you to a later Collett’s transfer free of charge subject to seats being available or (2) in the event of there not being a later transfer, we will endeavour to book you a taxi transfer, although this will be at your expense. We thank you in advance for your patience and understanding in the event of your transfer being delayed due to the delayed flight of other guests.

Contacting us on your day of travel
Naturally, we hope your travel arrangements are trouble-free and plain-sailing, but on the day you travel please call 07426 264289 or 0039 347 821 2648 as soon as you are made aware of any delay to your flight. Thank you.

Bringing Skis and Snowboards?

If you plan to bring your own skis or snowboard to the Dolomites, please let us know in advance so that we can ensure the transfer vehicle has sufficient space for all your luggage. If you don’t let us know, we can’t guarantee carriage to resort.

Fly Drivers and Self Drivers

If you are self driving or hiring a car rather than joining us on a transfer please refer to our Driving Directions here.

The Weather & Snow Forecasts

See for more information & webcams

Please don’t ring us to find out what the weather will be like during your holiday! We would hate to get it wrong and with mountains it is hard to get it right! Generally, the prevailing weather in the Dolomites and Pyrenees during the winter months is good, one or two days of snow followed by 6-7 days of good weather but as in any mountainous areas, the weather can be unpredictable and very localised. January and February can be particularly cold, so come prepared with plenty of layers.

Up-to-date forecasts are available at our resort offices, chalets (updated daily) and at the tourist offices. Naturally, our Snowshoeing and Skiing Organisers keep a firm eye on weather conditions and try to ensure it is safe to proceed with an excursion, but it is everybody’s responsibility to consider the possibility of cancelling an excursion (and voice any anxiety) if worried about the risk of adverse weather conditions.

Skipasses, School & Hire
Dolomites Walking Location Map

Ski School & Private Lessons

We work closely with local ski schools, so if you know your tuition requirements (ski school or private), whilst it can all be arranged in resort, please contact us with details prior to your holiday as it maximises our chances of booking our favoured instructors for you.

The traditional ski school package is 4 mornings (roughly 10am to 12.30pm) plus 1 full day (10am to 4pm) and starts from €180 per person, but does vary from village to village. In some villages it is also possible to choose a 3 day (from €95) or 4 day (from €155) course. We can also book you private instruction which can vary between €33 – €63 per hour depending on the time of day, and the season. Additional people are normally charged €10 per person. Please contact us to discuss options available to you, as these do vary between the different resorts.

To book Ski School before you depart please click here.

Ski Passes

The Dolomiti Superski pass will cost you about €304 for six days (or €61 per day) in high season and about €273 (or €55 per day) in low season. These prices are reduced by 30% for juniors born after 30/11/02. Senior citizens born before 30/11/53 also qualify for reductions. Skipasses for children born after 30/11/10 are free!

It is also possible to buy local valley passes, for example, for the Alta Badia or for Arabba and the Marmolada, however, for the proficient skier, these passes will not allow you to make the most of the area and are only really suitable for beginners, who may not need to make use of the full Dolomiti Superski pass. There are also other skipass options available for occasional skiers or beginners.

Ski and Snowboard Hire in the Dolomites

Ski hire starts from around €80 per week, depending on the type of skis you hire, whilst boots will cost you about €40 for six days. All in, expect to pay about €150 for a good set of intermediate/advanced skis, with boots. For snowboard and boots you can expect to pay about €135 for 6 days. Helmets are compulsory in Italy for all children under the age of 14, but we would also highly recommend everyone to hire a helmet during their stay.

On arrival we will help you hire equipment quickly and smoothly by taking you to our local supplier in the relevant village.

Ski Hire can be arranged once you arrive in resort, however it is generally recommended to book in advance.

Important – Disclaimer

On arrival, you will be asked to hand in the disclaimer enclosed with your Winter Factsheet sent by post.
This should be signed by all members of the party. This disclaimer is largely based on the ‘At your own Risk’ section in our guest information.
Download and print out the disclaimer here to sign and take with you

At Your Own Risk & Mountain Safety

Our staff organise various winter walks, snowshoeing days and ski itineraries during your stay but they are are not qualified mountain or ski guides and you join them at your own risk.

Everything you do during your stay in the Dolomites is done at your own risk. In the event of personal injury or death, we are not liable for efforts made by us to enhance your stay in the area, amongst which are our organised winter walks and skiing and the various printed and verbal suggestions concerning itineraries and routes that you will come across during your stay. It is a fact that mountainous areas and winter activities undertaken in the mountains are associated with personal injury and death. By coming to such an area with Collett’s Mountain Holidays or, indeed, independently, you are exposing yourself and your party to the (thankfully small) possibility of personal injury or death. In such an event, Collett’s Mountain Holidays will not be held responsible for your interest in mountainous areas and your involvement in winter mountain pursuits, which can occasionally have tragic consequences.

Duty of Care

We put safety first but you are as responsible as we are!
You join our organised days out at your own risk, responsible for your own safety and as part of an autonomous group, in which each member has a Duty of Care to each other. Not being professionally responsible for you does not mean we turn a blind eye to safety, nor does it make us exempt from owing a duty of care to people joining our organised snowshoeing days, winter walks or downhill/cross‐country ski days. We deem the safety of our staff and clients to be of unparalleled importance and we therefore take our own safety measures and endeavour to minimise the possibility of personal injury and death. We do this in line with legal requirements pertaining to duty of care.

As with any person or organisation involved with activities where there is a possibility of personal injury or death, the issue of duty of care is ever‐present and, in the absence of a qualified guide in ‘non‐professional’ activities anywhere in the world, such as winter walking or skiing (whether organised by a company, club, university or even a friend) has a legal commitment to all involved. This commitment to others should therefore be at the heart of your decision when joining a particular organised winter walk, snowshoe itinerary or ski day, whilst also forming the basis of your behaviour during that particular excursion.
