Walking in the Picos de Europa

23 April 2015

The Picos de Europa is a stunning mountain range rising dramatically above northern Spain’s beautiful Costa Verde offering breathtaking walking at all levels. High level walkers will love the altitudes of the impressive peaks and magnificent mountain landscapes. Lower level walkers will appreciate this inspirational backdrop of towering peaks, the abundant flora and fauna and the unspoilt ‘step-back-in-time’ hamlets. Arrive on the day of your choice, stay for as long as you wish and make the most of our range of high and low level walking for all abilities.

Organised & Self Guided Walking in Spain

The Picos de Europa form part of the Cordillera Cantabrica separating the dry plains of central Spain from the Costa Verde, the lush green northern coast of the Bay of Biscay. Much of the region is protected by the Picos de Europa National Park which centres on a compact and stunning range of mountains consisting of three major massifs rising dramatically from the coast. The Central and Western massifs are separated by the mile-deep Cares Gorge, a beautiful natural phenomenon which you will have the opportunity to walk at least once during your stay.

Our Picos de Europa holidays are highly flexible. Arrive on the day of your choice and stay for as long as you wish. Join one of our two organised daily walks (except Wednesday), one a high level harder hike, the other a moderate easier walk, rich in flora, fauna among stunning scenery, all in a relaxed atmosphere. Such is the amazing flora in early summer we also offer casual flower walks at this time. We offer a range of self-guided walks of any grade, days out on the Costa Verde and to places of interest in this beautiful corner of Spain. The area has a rich and vibrant culture and is famed for its cider and piquant blue cheeses matured in local caves.

Stay at our exquisite three-star posada, our base near the charming and vibrant little town of Potes or choose one of our self-catering apartments in Potes. Plan your days during ‘Office Hour’, over a relaxed pre-dinner drink with other guests and our own walkers and hosts whose extensive local knowledge will ensure you make the most of your time.
