Thursday 21st to Monday 25th April |
£265 per person |
David and Pauline Oldacres invite you to join our Easter Walking Break. It features 3 magnificent, moderate-grade day walks and 4 nights accommodation. Stay in one of 9 delightful en suite bedrooms at Eastfield Lodge, our comfortable 4 star guest house in picturesque Leyburn, one of North Yorkshire’s prettiest market towns and a gateway to the Yorkshire Dales National Park. |
Wake up to a good breakfast before venturing out into enchanting spring landscapes in the sociable company of like-minded guests. Afternoon tea and cake await you on your return from the hills - or you might choose to wander into a traditional local pub, or one of Leyburn's many cosy tea rooms. | Here is the programme: |
Thursday 21st April - Arrival |
| Meet at Eastfield Lodge in the afternoon for tea and cake. Then join us in the evening for a pre-dinner drink and canapés before an informal supper. |
| Friday 22nd April |
| Walk 1 - Leyburn Shawl - Distance 10 miles. |
Walking from our door here at Eastfield Lodge, we take a walk along the limestone escarpment of Leyburn Shawl with fine views of Wensleydale, with a chance to explore the remains of the Keld Head smelt mines before returning through the grounds of Bolton Hall and along the River Ure to Leyburn. Keld Head smelt mills once had the longest flue in England leading almost 2 miles up the hill to the Cobbscar Mines to carry away noxious gases from the village. This area was once one of the richest in the Dales as a result of the lead mining activity.
Pre-dinner drink followed by a two course supper. |
| Saturday 23rd April |
| Walk 2 – Fremington Edge – Distance 10 miles |
Starting from the pretty village of Reeth, we traverse Fremington Edge, which provides us with a look across the dramatic landscapes of Arkengarthdale before dropping down into the valley, then back over Reeth Low Moor into Swaledale.
Dave and Pauline will book a local pub for everyone to enjoy a meal together (pay individually). |
| Sunday 24th April - Easter Sunday |
| Walk 3 - Penn Hill, Templars Chapel and Redmire Force - Distance 9 miles |
An extremely varied walk starting with a climb to the dramatic summit of Penhill, then down to the remains of a chapel once owned by the Knights Templar. The second section then follows a really beautiful stretch of the River Ure on which we can stop to admire Redmire Force.
Pre-dinner drink followed by a three course dinner. |
| Monday 25th April - Easter Monday |
| A leisurely breakfast before departure. |

£265 per person (based on two people sharing a room)
£420 per person (where single occupancy is required) |
